COURSE DESCRIPTION – Year D
This course gives students the essential skills and information needed to meet their requirements for English Literature, Writing, U.S. Government and Economics.
The social studies portion of this course covers U.S. Government in the fall and Economics in the spring. Both of these will emphasize the practical skills for these subjects including the voting process, our responsibilities as citizens from a Christian perspective, as well as financial literacy after they graduate. Students will read modern literature that connects with these social studies topics to help them gain a deeper understanding in both subjects. Students respond in class with stimulating discussions as well as engaging activities. The textbooks, workbooks, and literature selections are at accessible level and most have audiobooks available to support students with various learning differences. For the writing portion of this course, all students regardless of grade level, will work through the same Essentials in Writing curriculum (see Books and Curriculum List) to gain skills as independent, clear, and organized writers. The instructor will provide instruction, support, and opportunities for peer-editing in class.
